PRAYERS

Anxious? Let's Pray!

“Is anyone among you suffering misfortune? He should pray. Is anyone cheerful? He should sing praise,”1 wrote James, Jesus’ half-brother who was the bishop of Jerusalem. Prayer works because God answers prayer.

“Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.”2 – St Paul, Bible.

Given below are scripture-based prayers that you may freely use. Or, if you would like one of us to pray for you, please feel free to request prayer.

Prayers For Irish Youth

These are prayers written for Irish youth who may be anxious about their future, work, mental health, and housing needs.

An Irish Youth’s Prayer ▾

God, our Heavenly Father,
I’m coming to You honestly now. You know what life is like for young people here. You see the stress of trying to find a place to live, the rent that keeps going up, and the feeling that the future is a bit shaky. You know the pressure in our heads, the anxiety, the tiredness, and the way we sometimes feel lost before we even get started.

I’m bringing all of that to You. Please steady my heart. Help me trust You when I haven’t a clue what tomorrow looks like. Remind me that I matter to You and that I’m not on my own, even when it feels that way.

Lord, I’m turning back to You today. I’m sorry for the times I pushed You aside or went looking for answers in the wrong places. I’m sorry for the habits and choices that dragged me down. Please forgive me. Clean me inside and help me start fresh. I give myself to You now. Build my faith again, real and strong, the kind that stands up even on rough days.

Guide me as I think about my future. If I stay here or end up abroad, show me the right road. Keep me from getting bitter or giving up. Give me wisdom for work, strength to keep going, and a heart that notices the people around me who are struggling too.

Lord, bring peace to my mind. Lift the heavy thoughts. Heal what’s broken inside. Give me good friends, good support, and good sense. Bless everyone working to help young people, especially in mental health. Bless my family and the people I care about, and look after those who have no one praying for them.

Teach me to love my neighbour, no matter where they’re from. Keep me from getting angry or suspicious just because someone is different. Help me stay fair, kind, and wise. Look after our country. Guide those in charge. Give them a bit of cop-on and a bit of courage so they do what’s right for everyone.

Lord, be my light on dark days. Be my shelter when life gets messy. Be my hope when I’m unsure of myself. Keep me close to You and lead me on, one step at a time, from this day forward.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

(Bible references: Matthew 6:26–30; Philippians 4:19; Philippians 4:6–7)

and fill me with hope.
Give me wisdom for every choice
I make today.

Heal the parts of me that are hurting.
Lift the heaviness off my shoulders.

and courage to do what is right.

A Prayer for Mental Health ▾

Heavenly Father,
I come to You as I am. I’m sometimes anxious. I feel discouraged. At times, I feel lost. But the Bible says You are “near to the brokenhearted” and You save those who feel crushed in spirit.

Please lift the weight off my mind. Calm my anxious thoughts. Heal wounds I carry inside me. Give me the courage to reach out for help when I need it.

Let Your light push back the darkness, for Your Word says that even when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, You are with me.

Teach me to rest, to breathe, to hope again.

Fill my heart with the strength and peace that only You can give.

I pray this knowing my access to you is through Christ alone. Amen.

(Bible references: Psalm 34:18; Psalm 23:4; John 14:27)

Prayers For Family And Relatives

A Parent’s Prayer For Children, Adolescents, & Young Adults ▾

Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, giving thanks for the precious gift of our children. As parents, we dedicate them afresh to You today, for they belong not to us but to You (Deut. 6:4–5). Lord, we ask that You will cause our children to remain loyal to You, the only true God, and to Your Son Jesus Christ (John 17:3). Be their God, their Shepherd, their Light, and their Salvation all the days of their lives.

Father, grant our children grace to remain faithful to You.
Guard their hearts from idols (1 John 5:21). Keep them from deceptions of the evil one (John 17:15); let them not lose their sincere devotion to Jesus Christ (2 Cor. 11:3–4). Deliver them from philosophies, ideologies, and propaganda that oppose Christ and the truth of the Gospel (1 Tim. 6:20–21). Keep them loyal to Your Word, steadfast in the faith delivered once and for all to the saints (Jude v3). Let them not be unequally yoked with children of darkness but walk in holiness and truth (2 Cor. 6:14–15).
Father, let our children know you better every day.
Give them the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God (Eph 1:17). Instruct them in your ways that they may know your peace (Isa. 54:13). Call them by name; speak to them (1 Sam 3:10). Blessed are those whom you choose and bring near, that they may abide in your courts. Let our children be satisfied with the goodness of your presence (Ps. 65:4).
We pray for their growth in godliness.
Let the Word of Christ dwell richly in them (Col. 3:16). Teach them to treasure Your Word in their hearts that they may not sin against You (Psalm 119:9–11). Root them deeply in love, virtue, good habits, discipline, and unity with Your people. Strengthen them to overcome the evil one because Your Word lives in them (1 John 2:14). Let them delight in your Law (Ps 1:2). Let them not be misled by the counsel of the ungodly or be enticed to follow along in the path of sinners or be seated with mockers who reject God (Ps. 1:1). May they be like trees planted by streams of water. Let them prosper in all that they do (Ps. 1:3).
Holy Spirit, be our children's Teacher and Guide.
Grant them wisdom from above (James 1:5). Guide them into all truth (John 16:13). Counsel and guide them with Your loving eye upon them; show them the path they must choose (Psalm 32:8). Grant them grace to embrace words of wisdom from parents and elders (Prov 4:1). Deliver them from the folly that's bound to their hearts (Prov 22:15).
Lord, bless our children's studies and their work.
Grant them understanding and diligence. Help them to glorify you with the abilities You gave them. Prosper the work of their hands, but keep them from pride and worldliness. Provide for their daily needs (Matt. 6:11a). Teach them to seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness, trusting You to supply all else (Matt. 6:31–33).
Lord God, we intercede for our children as Jesus prayed for Peter.
Save our children! For the godly have disappeared (Ps. 12:1a). The wicked seem to be everywhere, promoting evil (Ps. 12:8). Deliver them from temptations and the snares of sin (Matt. 6:13). Search them, O Lord. See if there be any wicked way in them, and lead them in the way everlasting. (Psalm 139:23–24). When tempted, let them not sin. Let their faith not fail (Luke 22:31–32). If they fall, help them to recognize their sins and to repent and seek forgiveness (1 John 1:9). Let their hearts not get hardened in sin (Heb 3:13).
Our Father, be a refuge and hiding place for our children (Psalm 32:7).
Teach our children to hide under the shadow of Your wings when they face the storms of life (Psalm 91:1–4). Let them not experience the terrors of the night or be struck by arrows that fly by day (Ps. 91:5). Protect them from “fowlers” who lie in wait to attack or abduct or harass them. Let no illness come near them (Ps. 91:10); even if a thousand may fall beside them, do not let any plague reach them (Ps. 91:6-7). Even if every one forsakes them, help them to strengthen themselves in the Lord (1 Sam 30:6). Never let them be overwhelmed by deadly sorrow (2 Sam 17:23). Satisfy them with long life (Ps. 91:16).
Father, above all, we pray for their salvation and eternal destiny.
Let them confess Jesus as Lord, believe in His resurrection, and walk in lifelong faith and obedience. May they never be ashamed of the Gospel but boldly stand for Christ in their generation. Make them lovers of truth, defenders of the faith, and servants of the Church. Whatever heights they may attain, let them remain humble, faithful, and devoted to the cause of Christ.
Form their character, O Lord.
Make them respectful and obedient (Eph. 6:1–4), chaste, sober, and free from every addiction and bondage. Guard their friendships and influences. Give them discernment to walk with the wise and not with scoffers. Bless them with your kindness, empathy, and generosity so that they will never despise the poor, the weak, the foreigner or anyone who is different from them (Prov 14:31; Zech 7:10). Help them be examples of purity, humility, and integrity (Titus 2:6). Help our children to honor their parents, especially in their old age, sickness, or weakness (Mark 7:11; Prov 23:22). We pray also for their unity with one another, with our extended family, and with all who believe in Jesus Christ (John 17:21). Make them peacemakers, builders of the Body of Christ, and bearers of Your light in a dark world.
Father, prepare our adolescent sons and daughters for responsible adulthood.
Teach them the dignity of labor, and give them diligent hearts, willing to work hard, to earn their own living, and to support the weak. (Eph. 4:28; 2 Thess. 3:12) As they mature physically, grant them grace to possess their bodies in holiness, honor, and self-control, not being overcome by lust. (1 Thess. 4:4–5) Help them to glorify You with their strength. In Your divine providence, bless our sons with godly wives and our daughters with godly husbands. And if You have appointed any of our children to the higher calling of a single life, bestow upon them abundant grace to serve You with an undivided heart. (1 Cor. 7:7, 35, 38)

Now unto You, O God, who is able to keep them from stumbling and to present them blameless before the presence of Your glory with great joy be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all time and now and forever. Amen.

A Parent’s prayer for sons/daughters who strayed from God ▾

Heavenly Father,
You are the God who knows the anguish of parents whose children have turned away. You said, “I reared children and brought them up, but they have rebelled against Me.” (Isaiah 1:2)

Lord, You understand our pain. You wept over Jerusalem because they did not know the time of their visitation. (Luke 19:41–44) We come to You with the same brokenness and tears, pleading for mercy on behalf of our sons and daughters who once knew You but now walk far from Your truth.

Father of compassion, remember them in Your mercy.
As You said of Ephraim, “Is he not My dear son, the child in whom I delight?” (Jeremiah 31:20) remember our children, too. Though they have strayed, let Your heart yearn for them. Draw them back by cords of kindness and the unfailing love of the Cross.
Lord, only You can change the human heart.
Take away their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh, tender, teachable, and responsive to Your Spirit. (Ezekiel 36:26) Give them a heart to know You, that You are the Lord. Let them be Your people again, and You their God. (Jeremiah 24:7)
Lord Jesus, we believe that with You nothing is impossible.
Even if their faith seems dead, You are able to raise it to life again, as You restored the son of the Shunammite woman and gave him back to his mother. (Matthew 19:26; 2 Kings 4:32–37) Do for our children what only You can do. Speak life into their spirit, light into their darkness, and truth into their confusion.
Father, fulfill Your promise to Your people:
“All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.” (Isaiah 54:13) Let this word come to pass in our family. Bring them under Your teaching again. Let the seed of Your Word, once sown in their hearts, awaken and bear fruit.
Mighty God, our warfare is not against flesh and blood.
We stand on Your promise that the weapons of our warfare are mighty through You to demolish strongholds. We pull down every argument, every false idea, every deceptive philosophy that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. We take captive every thought and bring it into obedience to Christ. (2 Cor. 10:4–5) Break the power of rebellion, unbelief, and pride. Let every bondage be shattered in Jesus’ name.
Lord, as You opened Lydia’s heart to respond to Your message, open our children’s hearts once more. (Acts 16:14) Let them encounter You anew, not merely as an idea they once learned, but as the living Lord who calls them by name. Reveal Yourself to them with irresistible grace and truth.
Father, grant us, their parents, wisdom from above. (James 1:5)
Teach us to walk humbly before You, to guard our words, and to love them with patience and gentleness. If our failures or harshness have wounded them, heal their hearts and ours. Restore the bonds of trust, forgiveness, and peace between us. Make our home a place where Your Spirit dwells, where mercy triumphs over judgment, and where reconciliation blossoms through grace.
God of all hope,
We believe You are at work even now, though we may not see it. You are the Shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to seek the one who is lost. Bring our children home to You. Let them confess Jesus as Lord once again, love Your Word, serve Your Church, and walk in righteousness all their days.
We entrust them to You, Lord.
You who began a good work in them will carry it to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. In Your mercy, do it, Lord, for Your glory, for the honor of Your Name, and for the joy of Your people.

In the name of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer and Restorer. Amen.
