When Salt Meets Water …

A Metaphor for Sin and Redemption

When salt absorbs water,
it doesn’t disappear — it dissolves.
Slowly, quietly, without noticing, the salt crystals lose their shape.
Not because it stopped being salt,
but because the force that holds salt particles together are weaker than
the force that holds water together.

That’s how sin works.
Not always loud.
Not always dramatic.
Just a little stirring … small temptations… moments we ignore …
until we suddenly feel like we’ve lost touch with who we are.

But here’s the truth:
Salt remains salt, even when dissolved.
Its nature never changes.
And so does your identity.
Even when you feel overwhelmed …
Even when the world pulls you in …
Even when temptations “stir” your life …

You are still the very person God created you to be.

But to become visible again, salt needs the water to evaporate—
and God reduces the world’s grip on you through:

  • His Word
  • repentance
  • worship
  • prayer
  • surrender
  • trials that wake us up

This is the “evaporation” in your spirit —
where God removes what doesn’t belong,
so that what does belong can appear again.

When God draws near, the ‘water’ goes away … and salt regains its solid state.

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him, because everything that is in the world—the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the arrogance of material possessions—is not from the Father, but is from the world. And the world is passing away, and its desire, but the one who does the will of God remains forever.” – 1 John 2:15-17 LEB
